Healthcare SEO

Healthcare SEO for UK private clinics

We help UK private clinics get found on Google by the patients they want, with SEO built around healthcare advertising rules. Then we care about what happens to the enquiry.

Who it's for

What healthcare SEO means for a private clinic

Healthcare SEO is the work that helps patients find your clinic on Google when they search for a treatment. It covers your Google Business Profile, your website, your content and the sites that link to you. Some people call it medical SEO. In the UK, it's how a private clinic gets seen by the patients it wants.

This page is for UK private clinics: dental, aesthetics, hair transplant, cosmetic surgery, fertility and laser eye. It isn't for NHS trusts, pharma companies or health tech brands.

Two things make private clinic SEO different from SEO for a shop. Google holds health content to a higher standard. And each clinic sector has its own advertising rules. Some other rules, such as registration and cosmetics licensing, differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Picture a dental practice in Leeds that offers implants. On a Sunday evening, a patient searches for implants, finds a page that answers their questions and fills in the form. Good SEO earned that enquiry. Whether it becomes a booked consultation depends on what happens next. We care about both.

The work

What our healthcare SEO includes

Six parts, planned around the treatments you most want to grow. As a clinic SEO agency, we work with private clinics only.

Local SEO and Google Business Profile

One accurate profile for each clinic location, with the fewest, most specific categories and your real business name. Google doesn't allow service or location keywords in the name, and says breaking this can lead to suspension (Google's guidelines).

Local citations

Your clinic's name, address and phone number, listed the same way on the directories patients and Google use.

Technical SEO

A fast site that Google can crawl and understand, with a clear structure for each treatment and location.

Content

Treatment pages and guides written for patients first, checked against your sector's rules, and signed off by your clinical team before they go live.

Links

Links from relevant, reputable sites, earned through useful content and local connections. No paid or swapped link schemes. Google warns against SEOs that talk about "link popularity schemes" (Google Search Central).

Reporting

A plain-English report each month on search visibility and enquiries, and, where your systems allow, which enquiries booked. We share every change we make.

Trust and rules

Why healthcare SEO is different

Local SEO for clinics uses the same tools as any local SEO. The difference is the standard your content has to meet.

Google holds health to a higher bar

Google treats health as a "Your Money or Your Life" topic. It gives more weight to signs of expertise and trust there, and says "trust is most important" (Google Search Central). Clear authorship and accurate pages matter more than volume.

No near-identical pages

Google warns against mass-producing content in the hope that some of it ranks (same source). So we don't build one page per town with only the place name changed.

Each sector has its own rules

Dentists follow the GDC. Doctors follow the GMC. Nurses follow the NMC Code. Adverts across the UK must follow the CAP codes, which the ASA enforces. Licensed fertility clinics also answer to the HFEA. We plan your content around the rules for your sector.

Some rules differ by nation

If your clinic needs to register, your regulator is the CQC in England, Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS), Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) or the RQIA in Northern Ireland. Some laws apply in one nation only. The 2021 law banning certain cosmetic injections for under-18s covers England (legislation.gov.uk). We say which nation a rule applies to.

Reviews have rules too

Google bans incentives for reviews and selectively asking happy patients for them (Google policy). UK law has banned fake reviews, and reviews that hide an incentive, since 6 April 2025 (CMA guidance). We help you ask every eligible patient the same way, with no incentives, no staff targets and no filtering out unhappy ones.

How we work

Honest SEO, with no ranking guarantees

Rankings can't be promised, so we don't promise them. No "page 1". No "#1 on Google". No date by which you'll rank. Google itself says: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google" (Google Search Central).

What we do instead is explain. You'll know what we're changing, why, and what we expect it to do. Google suggests asking any SEO about their experience in your industry, and what results to expect and when. Ask us about our experience in your sector. If we work together, we'll give you our honest view on results in your plan, before any work starts.

Flovio's founder, Carl Ashfield, spent a decade inside SEO agencies winning businesses more enquiries, including many clinic and healthcare businesses. He also saw too many of those enquiries lost to slow replies and no follow-up. So he started Flovio to close that gap, only for private clinics. That's why our SEO doesn't stop at the click.

By sector

SEO for your type of clinic

Dental SEO and aesthetic clinic SEO have their own pages. Hair transplant, cosmetic surgery, fertility and laser eye clinics are covered below. These are short summaries of published guidance as of October 2026, not legal or regulatory advice. Your clinic and its professionals stay responsible for your advertising, so check the full guidance, or ask your regulator or CAP's free copy advice service.

Dental SEO

Aesthetic clinic SEO

Prescription-only medicines can't be advertised to the public anywhere in the UK, so pages promote a consultation instead (ASA advice). Licensing for non-surgical cosmetic procedures also differs between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We explain both on our aesthetic clinic SEO page, with dated licensing details for each nation. Read about aesthetic clinic SEO

Hair restoration

Hair transplant clinic SEO

Hair transplant patients are deciding whether to have surgery. Your pages need to answer the questions that come before booking: who carries out the procedure, what recovery involves, and what's included in the cost.

CAP's guidance on cosmetic interventions names hair restoration surgery (CAP guidance). So marketing must not be aimed at under-18s. Pages should not imply "that surgically replaced hair will last permanently or with minimal risk of untoward complications". If surgery happens abroad, that should be made clear, along with the patient's costs, such as flights and accommodation, and whether they're included.

Prescription-only hair-loss medicines can't be advertised to the public. A general "hair loss consultation" can be promoted, as long as no medicine is named. A consultation for a named medicine can't (CAP, July 2026).

In England, cosmetic surgery that inserts instruments into the body is the regulated activity "surgical procedures", which needs CQC registration (the 2014 Regulations). In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, check your registration with HIS, HIW or the RQIA. Doctors anywhere in the UK also follow the GMC's guidance on cosmetic interventions (GMC).

Cosmetic and plastic surgery

Cosmetic surgery SEO

Patients researching cosmetic or plastic surgery want to know who will operate and what training they have. That makes surgeon pages central to your SEO, and the titles on them are tightly defined.

CAP's cosmetic interventions guidance, which covers the whole UK, explains what these titles should mean (CAP guidance). "Surgeon" means a doctor who practises surgery and holds FRCS or equivalent. "Qualified" generally means on the GMC Specialist Register for a relevant surgical specialty. "Experienced" normally means at least five years full-time in the specialty. "Consultant" means someone who has held an NHS consultant post, not a locum post, or a foreign equivalent. Clinics should hold proof of qualifications from a reputable, independent source. Mention Harley Street only if consultations or surgery happen there.

The same guidance says not to present invasive surgery as "minor" in a way that misleads, to avoid describing interventions as "safe" or "easy", and to hold evidence for claims like "pain-free". No countdown clocks and no "offer must end Friday". The GMC says doctors must not minimise risks, imply results are guaranteed, or use promotional tactics that encourage ill-considered decisions (GMC).

In England, cosmetic surgery providers register with the CQC. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, check your registration with HIS, HIW or the RQIA.

Fertility and IVF

Fertility clinic SEO

Fertility patients are often going through a difficult time. Content for fertility and IVF clinics should be clear, careful and free of pressure. This is the sector where we take the most care.

The HFEA is the UK's independent regulator of fertility treatment (HFEA). A joint CAP and HFEA enforcement notice covers clinics' own websites and social media (CAP and HFEA notice). Success rates must use the latest HFEA-verified data, give patient numbers as well as percentages, and explain the measure used. They also must not present a favourable group, such as under-35s, as typical. Clinical pregnancy must not be presented as live birth. "No.1 clinic" claims need a basis, and headline prices must say what's included.

These rules are enforced. Using AI-assisted monitoring, the ASA reviewed 2,380 fertility clinic ads and told 14 clinics to amend or remove theirs (ASA, December 2025). The CMA's 2021 guide for clinics (written before the 2025 changes to consumer law) also treats pressure selling and false time limits as possible breaches of consumer law (CMA). Since 6 April 2025, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act has also banned falsely saying something is only available for a limited time (CMA guidance).

We don't write success-rate claims or clinical content for fertility clinics. Any figures on your site come from you and HFEA-verified data, and your team approves them. Our part is helping patients find clear, accurate information about your clinic. For fertility clinics, any follow-up after an enquiry will be agreed with you case by case and kept gentle.

Laser eye

Laser eye surgery SEO

Laser eye patients are deciding about surgery on their eyes. Claims about safety, and any offers, need particular care.

The ASA's advice for laser eye clinics is specific (ASA advice). Don't describe the surgery as "completely safe" or "free from side effects". Be very careful with time-limited promotions, and don't play on insecurities about wearing glasses. Claims that results are permanent have been ruled against.

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists' 2017 standards, the latest version we could find in October 2026, go further (RCOphth standards). They say ads shouldn't use time-limited deals, package offers or competition prizes, and that every ad for surgery should carry a risk statement. These are professional standards, not law. They still shape what a careful page looks like.

Check your registration with your regulator: the CQC in England, or HIS, HIW or the RQIA elsewhere.

After the click

More enquiries are only half the job

SEO's job is to bring the right patients to your clinic. But an enquiry isn't a booking. If a form sent at 21:47 on a Sunday waits until Monday lunchtime for a reply, that patient may have booked somewhere else.

That's the gap Flovio was set up to close. Our lead conversion system is being built to reply to new enquiries within seconds, day or night, by text or email in your clinic's tone. It will book the consultation into your diary where your clinic's software allows, or hand it to your team with a summary. Follow-up will run for 30 days by text and email, with an easy opt-out in every message.

It will include missed-call text-back. Separately, we design, build and run an AI receptionist for clinics that want one, by voice, text or both. It will tell patients they're speaking to an AI, and book or hand over. Neither will give medical advice. Anything clinical will go to your team.

Before any of these messages go live, including missed-call text-back and follow-up, you confirm your clinic's lawful basis for sending them, and we set the system up around it. The ICO's guidance on direct marketing is the place to start.

So the two parts work together. SEO helps patients find you. The system is being built to make sure their enquiry gets a quick, helpful answer.

Questions clinics ask

How is healthcare SEO different from normal SEO?

Google holds health content to a higher standard of trust and expertise. Clinic content also has to follow sector rules, such as GDC guidance for dentists, GMC guidance for doctors and the CAP codes for adverts. Some rules differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Can you guarantee my clinic will rank on page 1?

No. Google says no one can guarantee a number one ranking on Google. We'll tell you what we're changing, why, and what we expect it to do, and we report on it every month.

How long does SEO take for a clinic?

We won't promise a timeline. It depends on your sector, your location, your website and your local competition. Google suggests asking any SEO what results to expect and when. If we work together, we'll give you our honest view in your plan.

How much does healthcare SEO cost?

We don't publish prices. We price after the free lead leak audit, once we can both see the likely return.

Should we choose SEO or Google Ads?

They do different jobs. Ads can bring enquiries for as long as you pay for them. SEO builds your visibility over time. Neither books a consultation on its own, which is why we also care about how quickly enquiries are answered.

How many patients are you losing to slow replies?

Our free lead leak audit enquires like a patient, times every response and puts a £ figure on what's leaking.
